Supported living

A safe, nurturing space to grow from

Here at Spire Assist, we believe no child or young person — including those arriving as Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children — should be left behind. Our supported and semi-independent accommodation gives 16–25 year olds a stable place to call home, and the skills to build a life beyond it.

Our approach

Structure, routine and a place that feels like home

Children in care carry a range of different experiences — sometimes traumatic and negative ones. Our goal is to provide a stable, secure environment which young people can genuinely call home: structure, routine, and a foundation to build on.

Young people are at the forefront of everything we do. Many of those we work with have difficult backgrounds and the risk of disengagement is high — so we engage with every young person, build rapport, and never fall back on seniority or age. Our staff use a therapeutic and nurturing approach, and they stick around long enough for trust to take root.

What life here looks like

The environment, the people, the skills

The accommodation

Our homes and post-16 accommodation include everything you'd expect — a large lounge, dining rooms and kitchen areas. Every young person gets their own single-occupancy bedroom to rest, relax and study in, which they can personalise and decorate to match their own tastes.

The staff

Good care can only come from people committed to the work. We employ passionate, experienced and qualified carers, provide ongoing training in the best techniques and approaches, and put every team member through rigorous background checks and an enhanced DBS check.

The life skills

From cooking and budgeting to appointments, education and relationships — young people learn and practise the skills they'll need to live independently, at their own pace, with encouragement rather than pressure, so they feel ready when the time comes.

Who we support

Care leavers and UASC, aged 16–25

We predominantly care for children leaving care and Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) between the ages of 16 and 25. For young people arriving in the UK alone — often after long, frightening journeys — a calm home, patient staff and respect for their culture, language, faith and dietary needs make all the difference.

Our homes are warm, nurturing environments where young people can build relationships with their peers, develop confidence, and prepare for adult life knowing someone is in their corner.
